Lucy

Lucy is a young adult rescue from Pima Animal Care Center who comes to the therapy room with a story of her own. She carries a few visible scars from her life before being adopted and approaches new people and situations carefully. Lucy is curious and cautious rather than fearful. She watches, takes her time, and prefers to decide for herself when she is ready to connect. Once she trusts you, though, you’re in.
Building a relationship with Lucy cannot be rushed. Connecting with her often requires slowing down, being calm and centered, having patience, and allowing trust to develop at its own pace. Saul may incorporate that process into therapy when exploring regulation, trust, patience, boundaries, and connection. Lucy is not there to perform. Much like the people in the room, she gets to have a say in the relationship. Her participation is always based on client comfort and preference.

Lucy has earned the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) credential, completed multiple levels of specialized therapy dog training, and is part of a registered Pet Partners therapy animal team with Saul. Saul is a Certified Animal-Assisted Intervention Specialist (C-AAIS) through the Association of Animal-Assisted Intervention Professionals (AAAIP). Their training together is ongoing as they continue to build skills, pursue additional credentials and specializations, and train simply because they enjoy it.

People frequently try to guess Lucy’s breed, and the answer is not simple. DNA testing shows that she is primarily Great Pyrenees and Chow Chow, with American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd Dog, and a little “Supermutt” rounding out the mix. When her vest comes off, Lucy is very much an off-duty dog. She gets the zoomies and loves playing with her canine friends.
